Incinerators release many air pollutants, including nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxides, particulate matter, lead, mercury, dioxins and furans.
Increased cancer risk and respiratory illness, cardiac and reproductive diseases, developmental and neurological problems.
At least 31 incinerators have closed since 2000. We are lobbying at the local levels to keep incinerators away from toxic burning.
Pfane Environmental Association is looking to local governments and environmental activist groups to help stop the unsorted burning of waste. We call on officials to increase demands for air purification systems where incinerators are required along with stringent onsite weekly AQI Testing as well as higher penalties for the burning of plastic substances inside any foundry or incineration facility. As well as a 100% ban on burning of whole ewaste or ewaste components that could otherwise be recycled.
